Spain – Amid mounting tension from ACE actions, three of the largest infringing websites in Spain have shuttered and the impact of the closures has been felt across other Spanish speaking markets.
The three sites — Megadede, Vidcorn and Movidy – were responsible for a large portion of piracy site visits in Spain:
- Megadede was the top streaming site in the country. The site is now offline and the operator has confirmed that all servers have been deleted of content.
- Movidy closed permanently in early December following mounting pressure from ACE actions. Movidy housed a large library of movies and TV shows belonging to ACE members and received over 15 million visitors in November 2020. Traffic primarily originated from Spain, but was also tracked across Latin America, including Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, and Peru. Communication from the operator confirmed that the site is closed and will not return.
- Vidcorn, one of the top three streaming site in Spain, received over 6 million visitors in October 2020. The website included a large library of movies and TV shows owned by ACE members. The website went offline in November 2020 and remains offline to this day.
“Unauthorized sites such as Megadede, Vidcorn and Movidy take away the creative community’s ability to legally distribute its work. ACE will continue to implement anti-piracy measures in Spain and take strong action against illegal operations across the world to ensure that content is strongly protected,” said Karyn Temple, Senior Executive Vice President and Global General Counsel for the MPA.
