China – Following ACE’s referral, the Shenzhen Market Supervision and Administrative Bureau (MSA) in China has issued a punishment decision against Chinese set top box manufacturer Shenzhen Zoomtak Electronics Co Ltd (Zoomtak).
In one of the first cases of its kind in China, the MSA ordered Zoomtak to cease its infringing activities immediately and imposed a punitive fine. The MSA based its decision on the basis of Zoomtak’s sale and preinstallation of an infringing app, “ClubTV” on request for buyers outside China.
“This as an important case establishing infringement of a set top box manufacturer of this type in China,” said Jan van Voorn, Executive Vice President and Chief of Global Content Protection for the MPA. “We applaud the work of the MSA and believe this has established a good foundation to present further cases and infringement examples in the region.”
