Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment Joins Vietnam Government To Co-Host Anti-Piracy Symposium

July 21, 2022

The Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), the world’s leading coalition dedicated to protecting the dynamic legal ecosystem for creative content, and the Vietnamese Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) co-hosted an anti-piracy symposium today in Hanoi entitled “Disrupting the Piracy Ecosystem and Protecting Legal Services.”

The symposium, attended by over 100 government officials and content industry representatives, discussed effective strategies to disrupt and curb egregious levels of digital piracy; the efficacy of technology related solutions; effective consumer messaging that would resonate with both governments and consumers.

The Deputy General Director of the Authority for Broadcasting and Electronic Information (ABEI), MIC, Mr. Le Quang Tu Do commented:

“The forms and methods of piracy we are seeing are very sophisticated and constantly changing, with infringers always hiding detailed information whilst providing illegal cross-border services. As a result of the challenges we face from digital piracy the Authority for Broadcasting and Electronic Information (ABEI) has organized this Symposium in collaboration with both the Vietnamese movie industry and the international representative association ACE, to discuss and formulate cooperative strategies in order to effectively protect the content of copyright right holders. Activities like todays symposium will help reduce piracy and migrate consumers to legal services. We would like to convey our thanks to ACE for partnering with MIC in this important anti-piracy event.”

Jan van Voorn, Executive Vice President of Content Protection for the Motion Picture Association and head of ACE,  said:

“Vietnam has huge potential as a growth market for legal content services. However, with globally infamous piracy sites, such as Phimmoi, being operated out of Vietnam, it is also becoming an international center of digital piracy. ACE is grateful to be invited to partner with the Vietnamese government in this important anti-piracy symposium. Collaborating with key government Ministries as well as the Vietnamese content industry is critical in our fight against digital piracy.

“I thank the Ministry of Information and Communication for hosting this important symposium. As ACE continues to expand in the Asia Pacific region, we will work to identify and prosecute online piracy operators and support the hard-working Vietnamese and international video industry.”
