MEXICO CITY – The Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), the world’s leading coalition dedicated to protecting the dynamic audiovisual ecosystem and reducing digital piracy, participated in the 2022 Anti-Piracy Summit hosted in Mexico City last week.
The summit is an international meeting of leading piracy authorities and stakeholders, who gather annually to discuss piracy across several sectors, including the film, TV and streaming industry. It was organized by Latin America Anti-Piracy & Intellectual Property Consulting (LAAPIP) and TTVNews, and it was sponsored by ACE, LaLiga and other local players, such as El Financeiro, the TMI Abogados law firm and FOX Sports México.
During her presentation at the summit, Ana Sousa, an ACE representative based in Latin America, highlighted the coalition’s successful initiatives around the world, particularly in her region. As she explained, piracy in Mexico has increased over time and is still a major challenge for the industry; around 25 percent of Mexicans have visited one of the top 52 illegal services in the country in the last year, according to Sousa.
Sousa also raised concerns about the piracy of live sports broadcasting and noted that ACE recently welcomed beIN Sports, a Qatar-based sports broadcasting company, as a new member. Over the past few months, ACE and beIN have supported Egyptian law enforcement to identify and help shut down 27 illegal websites operated in the country, impacting millions of viewers worldwide.
