SEOUL, South Korea – The Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), the world’s leading coalition dedicated to protecting the dynamic legal ecosystem and reducing digital piracy, led a panel discussion today on money laundering and piracy at the 15th Annual International Law Enforcement IP Crime Conference.
The multilingual panel, “Understanding Money Laundering Aspects and Piracy,” was moderated by Neil Gane, a senior representative of the ACE global enforcement team. Panelists included senior representatives from the Financial Crimes Section of the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and the private sector.
“ACE was privileged today to moderate this important discussion to raise awareness of the ways that illegal piracy operations engage in money laundering activities,” said Gane. “Our panelists examined how criminal elements of money laundering play a part in the global threat that digital piracy poses to content creators around the world. In addition, we discussed important solutions to enforce and disrupt the digital piracy ecosystem that help protect the creative community.”
The three-day conference, whose theme this year is “Effective Measures to Fight Online and Offline IP Crime,” brings together law enforcement, customs officials, regulatory agencies, and private sector investigators to share and develop best practices to combat the trafficking of pirated and counterfeit products. The gathering enables participants to discuss the recent trends and the impact that counterfeit and pirated goods have on public health and safety. It is being co-hosted this year by Interpol and the Korean National Police Agency, in partnership with Underwriters Laboratories.
