Eugene, OR, July 12, 2021 – The Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), the world’s leading coalition dedicated to protecting the dynamic legal marketplace and reducing digital piracy, congratulates the Department of Justice’s US Attorney’s Office in the District of Oregon for achieving a criminal conviction of Talon White, the operator of two popular piracy sites, SuperChillin and Sit2Play.
After ACE began its investigation and sent several cease-and-desist letters and other communication that were ignored by White, ACE referred the case to law enforcement. With substantial law enforcement action and collaboration with Homeland Security Investigations and IRS Criminal Investigation, Assistant U.S. Attorneys Gavin W. Bruce and Amy Potter prosecuted the case. ACE continued to support the criminal proceedings throughout the trial.
“We applaud law enforcement’s efforts to have this case brought to court as well as the conviction achieved today,” said Jan van Voorn, Executive Vice President and Chief of Global Content Protection for the MPA. “We are grateful to our partners for protecting jobs and creativity by producing a solid deterrent effect in the market.”
The theft of digital content is the single greatest threat to the global audiovisual community. It harms both local and foreign films and businesses, threatens jobs, undermines investment, reduces tax contributions to governments, and stifles creativity. The Protecting Lawful Streaming act will lead to and aid in the prosecution of new criminal cases in the US, thereby protecting the legal digital ecosystem.
