LOS ANGELES – On November 3, following a major investigation by the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) in support of Thailand’s Department of Special Investigations (DSI), one of the world’s most notorious piracy websites, movie2free, ceased all operations.
Movie2free had nearly 35 million monthly visits. It illegally distributed numerous films and television shows, while its operators profited from sales of advertisements on the website. At the time of its closing, movie2free ranked as the 20th most popular website in Thailand.
Following the operation, Jan Van Voorn, Executive Vice President & Chief of Global Content Protection, Motion Picture Association, said: “Movie2free was one of the most high-profile piracy websites in the world, and it only ceased operations following a comprehensive investigation by Thai authorities and ACE. We applaud the important work of the Department of Special Investigations (DSI) to put a stop to this criminal enterprise. This is a positive result for the many millions of people around the world who make their living from the film and television industry and an important win for the dynamic authorized marketplace for creative content.”
