Jan van Voorn, Executive Vice President and Chief of Global Content Protection for the Motion Picture Association and Head of ACE, delivered remarks at the conference in Rome and provided an overview of ACE’s anti-piracy mission, the continued growth of its global network, recent enforcement actions and ongoing criminal cases.

“I was proud to join this important gathering to discuss the important work ACE is doing around the world to combat piracy and protect the creative economy,” van Voorn said. “As we discussed, piracy takes many forms, all of which pose a serious threat to the global economy, business and consumers.”

Counterfeiting and piracy continue to pose a serious threat to the health and safety of consumers, as well as to the European economy. Imports of counterfeit and pirated goods reached EUR 119 billion in 2019, accounting for 5.8 percent of all goods entering the European Union, according to Europol.

The Europol conference – a gathering of 400 experts from law enforcement agencies, private sector and key institutional partners – was organized in partnership with the Italian Guardia di Finanza and the International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition (IACC).
